< Back to Certificates of Origin
The AAMVA (American Association of Motor Vehicle Administrators) is a nonprofit organization committed to enhancing safety and security through motor vehicle administration and law enforcement. Many, if not all, of the Administrators in the Departments of Motor Vehicles throughout the United States are members.
The AAMVA has issued standards on the Security Features that are used on Certificates of Origin.
Most, if not ALL States use them as a guideline to determine if a Certificate is Valid. Some States require MORE security features than other States.
Sensitized Security Paper – Paper that is reactive to chemicals commonly used to alter documents.
Non-Optical Brightener Paper – Paper that will not “light up” under Ultraviolet light. Regular paper fluoresces under UV light.
ENGRAVING:
The border must be engraved. Engraving is achieved by putting ink on a heavy metal die and pressing that die, using a lot of pressure – 2000 pounds, into the paper. The result is a NOTICABLE indentation on the back of the sheet, and a raised feel on the front. This is expensive.
INKS:
Prismatic – This is printing words by combining two or more inks in a random pattern so that part of a letter or word is in one color and the rest of the letter or word is in another color.
Complex Color – A color that is made up of two or more of the primary or secondary colors (Red and Blue, or Yellow and Green).
Fluorescent Inks – Inks that will “light up” under ultraviolet light.
Non-Erasable Fluorescent inks – that react to attempts to erase by hand or by chemicals. The result is a “smudge”.
Background Security Pattern – A repetitious design that hinders counterfeiting efforts.
MicroText – VERY, VERY small lettering that requires a magnifying glass to read. (Unless you’re a teenager with super eyesight!)
Security Thread – A WaterMarked Security line or thread somewhere on the sheet. Visible from both sides of the paper.
NUMBERING: – Consecutively Numbered sheets.
PAPER SIZE and Weight: – 7 x 8 inches. 60# or heavier weight paper (Ours is 70# for longer durability.)
Type Size and spacing: – Text matter spacing is 1/6 inch deep (for standard 12 point type using your printer) and 1/10 inch horizontal. We do that!
YOUR Custom WaterMark – Your exclusive Genuine WATERMARK is indelible and transparent. It can’t be scanned, copied, photographed, recreated by a computer or duplicated by your local print shop. It’s virtually Counterfeit-Proof *
Hidden Message Anti-copying feature –Attempts to copy or scan your Certificate will result in the word “VOID” appearing throughout the copy.
Custom MicroText – Your company name is inserted into the document between the upper and lower part of the engraved border. Our competitors use a generic message.
Security Warning Message – A warning message points out what YOUR WaterMark looks like. Additional warning messages are on the front and the back of your Certificate.
WaterMarked Identification Number – A special number, unique to your Certificates is indelibly WaterMarked in the lower left corner of the sheet.
Customer Identification Line – A very small series of numbers are printed in the lower left corner that identifies YOU and THIS PARTICULAR order of Certificates.
